Inspection Report

Rosefern is regularly inspected by CSCI.  Launched in April 2004, The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) is the single, independent inspectorate for all social care services in England.

The commission was created by the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003.

CSCI incorporates the work formerly done by:

  • The Social Services Inspectorate (SSI)
  • SSI/Audit Commission Joint Review Team
  • The National Care Standards Commission (NCSC).

This is what the CSCI had to say about Rosefern in their last inspection report.

This unannounced inspection took place on November 22nd and took eleven hours to complete, which includes time for preparation and writing the report. The manager was not on duty, however, Karen Humphries, Senior Carer on duty, was present throughout the inspection. Three service users and two members of staff were spoken to during the inspection. All comments were positive regarding the standard of care provided in the home. Comments are available in the main report. The majority of the core standards were assessed at the first annual inspection of this home. This report addresses those core standards not assessed or met at that time.

What the service does well:
Service users are encouraged to take part in a range of activities according to preference and capacity with risk assessments in place. They are enabled to choose what they prefer to do and to have control over the way they live their lives. Each person is individually assessed and consulted with. The service users said they did many interesting things and that there was always some outing or event to look forward to. Service users are also involved in planning events where possible. The meals are varied and nutritious. The home is clean, welcoming and homely.

What has improved since the last inspection?
Service users now buy all their own toiletries and extra refreshments. They no longer contribute a fixed amount every week.

What they could do better:
Those service users for whom the proprietor is an appointee must have their accounts independently monitored. CSCI has had correspondence regarding this and the matter is in progress. Feedback from quality assurance questionnaires should be made available to interested parties.
